
We are a grass-roots organization, and volunteers have always been the heart and soul of NAMI. Our volunteers make us who we are!
If you are passionate about mental health and those with mental illnesses, one of the ways you can show your support for NAMI Topeka is to offer your invaluable time and energy as a valued volunteer.
We have many opportunities for volunteers to help. Some of our ongoing volunteer opportunities include:

Becoming a NAMI program trainer so you can teach a class or run a support group

Implementing one of NAMI's free community outreach programs such as Say It Out Loud, Sharing Hope or NAMI FaithNet Office and administrative support

Data entry and database management

Information and referral specialist

Events assistant

Board service

Raising awareness during Mental Health Month, Mental Illness Awareness Week, National Minority Mental Health Month and Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

DIY Fundraising

Participate in NAMIWalks. Walk with NAMI Topeka to spread awareness of mental illness treatment and recovery and raise funds for NAMI Topeka’s programs.
The following are opportunities specifically for those living in recovery and those that have a loved one with mental illness:

Presenter
Become a NAMI trained speaker to educate the community about mental illness and related issues.

Support Group Facilitator
Become a NAMI trained support group facilitator.

Instructor
Become a NAMI Basics, NAMI Family to Family, or NAMI Homefront instructor.

Join Us
Become a NAMI member at all three levels of the organization – national, state and local – with one payment. You’ll be connected to NAMI, NAMI Kansas and NAMI TOPEKA. We’ll help you stay informed on mental health issues. Your membership also includes online access to member-only content, online discussion groups and discounts. As a member, you’ll add your voice to the mental health movement and help improve the lives of people with mental illness.
Volunteering for NAMI Topeka shows how important mental health is to you. Whether you are giving your time because NAMI has helped you or someone you know in the past or you are passionate about our cause, we would be very grateful of any volunteer work that you would be willing to do, as we work together to help provide education, advocacy and support to those living with mental illness and their families, in the Topeka area!
